Seven creative designers make their debut on the ramp with dazzling collections at tkhe opening show of Lakmé fashion week summer/resort 2012. Making their appearance in the Gen Next section of Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2012, Shikha Grover and Vinita Adhikare presented a collection that featured a Metamorphosis inspired by the butterfly in its various stages. Their label ILK revealed their fashion sense in its ultimate creative mode. With a theme like Development and Transition, the duo used simple basic materials turning them into innovative garments. Aiming to present totally wearable apparel, the pair ensured there was a touch of style, bringing in contrasts with an edgy appeal.

Calling the collection “I Lose Myself”, the look moved from casual to more stylish in shades of white, grey and black followed by a touch of bright colours. With geometrics as the basis, the clothes were tailored and linear with organic silhouettes. Interesting capes sparkled over knotted dresses, while a creation with detailing on the back and shoulders with sheer drape stunningly revealed the butterfly inspiration.

Yarns of threads were cleverly tied, twisted and woven to create amazing silhouettes for asymmetric dresses, shorts, looped collars and draped midis. A very New Age collection which had eye popping visual appeal!

Debarun Mukherjee ropes in Shahana as his showstopper

Designer Debarun Mukherjee is set to pay tribute to old Bollywood charm with his collection at the ongoing Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) and he has roped in Shahana Goswami to walk the ramp as a showstopper. He says she fits the bill.

“Shahana Goswami is a very good actress and a versatile one. I always go for those showstoppers who can add value to my design skills. My collection is a tribute to the old Bollywood charm and she defnitely fits that kind of category. Time and again she has proved herself as an actor, and me as a designer looks up to her acting skills,” Mukherjee told IANS.

Shahana is known for her performance in “Rock On!!” and “Firaaq”.

The five-day fashion extravaganza started Friday and the designer will showcase his collection Sunday.

“The collection titled ‘Bygone’ will showcase a collection which is not only timeless but also aesthetic. The silhouettes are simple and inspired from the 1950S and the 1960s,” he said.

“For the women, there are kaftans with churi pants, flared trousers with short tops, A- line skirts with blouses, fitted suits and saris. For the men there are kurtas, suits, draw string flared pants and shirt kurtas,” he added.

He has used Chanderi, dupion silk, crushed mal mal and pure cotton in whites and various pastel to create the designs.

Manoj Kumar and Vinod Bhardwaj
The Banyan Tree was the inspiration for Manoj Kumar and Vinod Bhardwaj as they sent an eclectic collection onto the catwalk under their label “Antariksh” (which means limitless). With their line of convertible garments, the duo presented in a dramatic manner a range that will be a commercial hit. Made from low priced raw fabrics and with each garment having two options when it comes to wearing it, their theme “Infinity” fitted in perfectly with the tone of the collection. The interesting rope jacket completely hand woven with wood carvings and the draped handkerchief dress were stunners. Trousers too had an innovative look to complement the other garments.

With a colour palette that matched the Banyan Tree the layered clothes in shades of earthy green and brown with tie dyed effects and beautiful rope detailing had eye catching pieces like the pleated dress with leaf motif, the off shoulder woven jacket with self carved “U” shape, the asymmetrical square 20 paneled dress with hand woven shrug and belt which all came together to tell a wonderful eco friendly story of fashion and style.
